As a young girl I loved fairy tales and legends. As I grew older I also got to love History and one day I found out something extraordinary:
legends are clearly not factual history, but they are not devoid of history either.
Legends are an account of historical stories told and retold and passed on from generation to generation.
Legends are the unwritten history of a particular culture or nation, and as such they became a sort of literary work retold and rewritten with the very words of the author.
A legend is like the painting of a particular and same landscape by different artists, each of them putting on canvas his or her own perspectives and colours.
Legends are like deep-rooted trees. They live on for ever and flourish with each new generation.
But legends are much more than bridges linking a nationís past to its present and its tomorrows.
They underline moral values that define the mentality of a people and its culture.
While legends are rather accounts of facts and places, myths are usually centered on characters with supernatural qualities.
They are narratives about gods and heroes.
I hope youíll enjoy the legends Iíll be sharing regularly with you in my website. Please choose the legend from the list on the right.
