SOUR CHERRY LIQUEUR
(Portuguese liqueur from "Beira Alta": Licor de Ginja)/small>
My parents used to make this home-made liquer recipe every year with the sour cherries from our garden.
If you're unable to buy the cherries, you may try to find in shops the liqueur reproduced in the picture;
it comes from the Northern region of Serra da Estrela.
Be however aware that the liquer you buy is much sweeter than my recipe of home-made liqueur.

. 1 kg sour cherries
. 1 lt schnapps
. 1/2 lt white wine
. 1/2 kg sugar
. 1 cinnamon stick
Preparation
1 - In a cooking pot pour in all the ingredients and let come to boil.
2 - When the liquid starts boiling, the liqueur is ready.
3 - Let it cool down, then pour into the bottles.

Handy hint: I always use bottles with a large neck so that I may take the cherries out and put one or two in each glass:
it tastes delicious, inasmuch as I make the liqueur with the fruits of the sour cherry tree in my garden!
