It happened in SEPTEMBER
- 03, 1190 - Taking of the city of Silves in the Algarve: at the time in the hands of the Almohad dynasty,
the city is conquered by the Portuguese king Dom Sancho I (1154-1211) with the help of North European Crusaders on their way to Palestine.
Silves would be reconquered by the Almohads a year later but recaptured by the Portuguese king Afonso III (1210-1279).
- 03 - Republic of San Marino's National Day.
- 03, 1939 - II World War: The United Kingdom and France declare war to Germany.
- 7 - Anniversary of the independence of Brazil, in 1822, by prince Pedro, the heir son of the Portuguese king João VI.
Prince Pedro became later the first emperor of Brazil.
- 08 - Andorra's National Day.
- 12, 1297 - Signature of the Peace of Alcanices between king Dinis of Portugal and Sancho IV, king of Castile.
This treaty defined the frontiers of Portugal within the territorial limits the country still keeps today.
- 15 - Mexico's National Day, anniversary of the "call" to revolution against Spain by
abbot Miguel Hidalgo y Costiela in 1810.
- 24 - Guiné-Bissau's National Day: anniversary of the independence, in 1974,
of this old Portuguese colony of Africa.
One of the most important dates in a person's life is our own birthday.
Would you like to know how much time has passed since that day?
Enjoy yourself making the calculation
